Mayor Eric Adams has unveiled a new plan to take people with severe mental illness off city streets, by force if necessary. The move is drawing strong reactions and many questions from advocates for the homeless. ZinniaDee_TV reports.
Williams says he supports portions of Adams' new plan but believes there's major issues not being addressed.
Adams says the city will set up a virtual consultation hotline which first responders can use to show a clinical expert the person they're dealing with in real time. From there, medical teams decide whether to bring someone in for a full psychiatric evaluation. Bershad also questioned how first responders will actually go through the process of transporting those who may not want to be taken in for mental health care.
