Maxis and Huawei have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at advancing a 5G-Advanced acceleration programme. This partnership, formalised during the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona and overseen by communications minister Fahmi Fadzil, encompasses various initiatives to foster the commercialization and adoption of 5G technology in Malaysia. These efforts span across multiple domains including use cases, key technologies, technological evolution, and ecosystem development.

Under this agreement, Maxis and Huawei will collaborate with solution providers to spur innovation in applications and ecosystem development. They will jointly explore strategies to encourage adoption and facilitate seamless migration, thus expediting the integration of 5G technology. Additionally, both entities will demonstrate the advantages of end-to-end 5G-Advanced capabilities, emphasising versatility, security, and reliability through trial and testing.

Simultaneously, Maxis and Huawei will leverage network insights to pinpoint opportunities for business solutions and optimisation driven by 5G and its advanced iterations. This will encompass both consumer and business segments, including small and medium enterprises , with a focus on exploring key technologies such as digital operations, network slicing, and programmability.

Moreover, the partnership will delve into future technological and spectrum evolution, offering recommendations aligned with business imperatives and ecosystem readiness. These endeavours will align with the government's policy to support the advancement of 5G-Advanced technology in the country. The telco added that the MOU is a result of the two companies' prior technology association. Just recently, both Maxis and Huawei successfully showcased the first 5G-Advanced technology trial in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
