Matthew McConaughey called for action in a statement about the shooting in Uvalde: 'Whichever side of the aisle we may stand on, we all know we can do better.'
. “Once again, we have tragically proven that we are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms grant us,” he began.
McConaughey went on to say, “As Americans, Texans, mothers and fathers, it's time we re-evaluate, and renegotiate our wants from our needs. We have to rearrange our values and find a common ground above this devastating American reality that has tragically become our children's issue.” The Oscar winner also pointed out that this is not a political issue, but one of safety and compassion for our fellow citizen.
The actor's statement comes one day after at least 19 students in second, third, and fourth grade and two teachers were killed during a mass shooting. Texas Governoridentified the shooter as Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old who lived in Uvalde. He is also dead.
