Matthew Cherry is expanding his Hair Love animated short into a new series titled Young Love for HBO Max.
highlighted the importance of depicting positive images of Black fatherhood in media, and celebrated the beauty and versatility of Black hair. Cherry invited Deandre Arnold, a Texas teen who was told he would be banned from graduation if he didn't cut his locs, to accompany him to the 2020 Oscars, and dedicated the award to The Crown Act.was done because we wanted to see more representation in animation. We want to normalize black hair. There is a very important issue that's out there.
