The family of former Fitzroy champion and renowned AFL club recruiter Matt Rendell has confirmed that he is gravely ill after suffering a heart attack.

Rendell, 64, was taken to hospital after collapsing during a walk and was being treated in intensive care at a hospital in Melbourne’s south-east.Tim Rendell confirmed on Tuesday morning that his older brother had suffered a heart attack while out walking his dog on Sunday and was critically ill.

He said his brother was “pretty fit” and had remained active. He has two sons, who are both overseas. He later worked as an assistant coach with St Kilda, but became best known as a recruiting expert with Adelaide and later Collingwood.
