Marvel confirms SHIELD had a presence during Avengers: Endgame's final battle. An unknown SHIELD agent wrote a book called I Was There, which details the Battle of Earth.
Marvel officially confirms that SHIELD had a presence during Avengers: Endgame's final battle. It has been more than three years since the Joe and Anthony Russo blockbuster wrapped up the Infinity Saga. Still, more information about it continues to come out despite the MCU now in the middle of Phase 4.
As beloved as Avengers: Endgame is, there are some lingering questions that it failed to address. For starters, specifics about Captain America remain largely unknown. Now that Sam Wilson has officially assumed that identity, it doesn't seem like it's something that Marvel Studios is planning on answering any time soon.
If you’re searching for a first-hand account of The Battle of Earth, be sure and pick up a copy of the memoir I Was There… written by a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent detailing “the clash between the heroes of earth and the Alien scourge threatening our fragile planet.” The book includes a conversation with Hawkeye, and a first-hand account of Tony Stark using the Infinity Gauntlet .
Aside from the SHIELD agent, Ms. Marvel also revealed that Scott Lang has been doing a podcast where he dishes information about his adventures with the rest of the Avengers. Initially, this was enough to explain why the public knows a lot about the heroes' fight against Thanos. So while the presence of SHIELD during the Battle of Earth makes sense, this additional information actually makes the whole matter more complicated as it has resulted in more mysteries.
It has been a while since SHIELD was actually involved in the MCU's storytelling. Since Phase 2, their adventures have been largely separated from the Avengers as chronicled in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. At this point in Avengers: Endgame, Nick Fury had been gone for five years so it's curious who recruited them to the battle location.
