Mark Hamill has cast doubt about Luke Skywalker's future, despite theories that the Jedi Master would have a large role in the Mandalorian movie.
Mark Hamill has cast some significant doubt regarding his Star Wars future as Luke Skywalker, especially when it comes to the upcoming Mandalorian movie. Although Lucasfilm's projects set during the New Republic-era look to be taking inspiration from Heir to the Empire and Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy, a reworked adaptation for the established canon may not feature the heroes of the original trilogy in exactly the same way. As such, Hamill seems to share this sentiment.
"People say, 'Oh, now you're going to be able to do a whole series of Luke post-Return of the Jedi.' I said, 'I don't think so.' First of all, they don't need to tell those stories, but if they do, they could get an age-appropriate actor." The upcoming Mandalorian movie will reportedly culminate all the New Republic shows beyond The Mandalorian series including Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming Skeleton Crew show starring Jude Law. As such, it stands to reason that characters like Ahsoka Tano and Din Djarin will fulfill the roles of the original trilogy heroes while perhaps appearing in smaller roles instead.
