Relativity Space, the Mark Cuban-backed startup that is building 3D rockets, will launch a mu Space satellite in 2022

Relativity Space, the Mark Cuban-backed startup that is building 3D rockets, already has another contract -- one with mu Space, a satellite and space technology company based in Thailand. Relativity will launch a satellite to low Earth orbit in the second half of 2022, aboard its Terran 1 rocket.it will launch an undisclosed number of Telesat's satellites

"People are seeing that 3D printing and that manufacturing -- what is Relativity's core technology -- is the future of launch," said CEO Tim Ellis in an interview."We're able to offer better pricing because of the automation of the production. We're able to offer pricing two to three times lower than other [similar] launchers on the market."

It's a prime space for constellations of tiny satellites to work together. Ellis said one reason SpaceX hasn't targeted that space is it's so new; constellations of this sort were not even envisioned five years ago. Since the satellites will orbit so close to Earth, their latency is very low, he added.mu describes itself as a company that builds technologies"to accelerate the adoption of IoT devices and smart cities.

Relativity has been very active since billionaire Mark Cuban chipped in $500,000 in 2015 to launch the nascent company. The company has raised $44 million in two funding rounds, and plans a Series C shortly. Relativity's promised disruption to the market is innovating its rocket line every six months, on the back of its 3D printing technology, rather than the usual three to four years its competitors offer.
