Mark Carney PM baharu Kanada ganti Justin Trudeau
OTTAWA: Bekas Gabenor Bank Pusat, Mark Carney, memenangi pemilihan kepimpinan Parti Liberal Kanada sekaligus menggantikan Justin Trudeau sebagai Perdana Menteri.
Minggu lalu, Donald Trump mengumumkan cukai 25 peratus terhadap semua barangan Kanada dengan pengecualian untuk sektor automotif dan tenaga. Tarif ini berisiko mendorong ekonomi Kanada yang rapuh ke arah kemelesetan. Dengan meraih 85.9 pertatud undian, Carney mengatasi bekas Menteri Kewangan Chrystia Freeland, bekas pemimpin kerajaan Karina Gould, dan bekas ahli parlimen Frank Baylis.
Walaupun tiada peraturan yang melarangnya, konvensyen mencadangkan Carney perlu segera mengumumkan rancangan untuk bertanding dalam pilihan raya persekutuan.
