Housing Minister Julie Collins says supply issues and a shortage of workers will affect the construction of new dwellings under the federal government’s $10 billion housing fund, but she expects many of these constraints to ease by early next year.
Housing Minister Julie Collins said some capacity constraints in the construction industry were expected to ease by early next year.“We’ve been talking to the sector ... We anticipate that towards the end of this year, early next year, the sector will have capacity,” she told Nine’sThe Albanese government is expected to pass its Housing Australia Future Fund legislation through parliament this week after offering a $1 billion sweetener to the Greens.
Other efforts to increase housing supply include an agreement by national cabinet to fast-track the construction of 1.2 million homes over the next five years.
