President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will travel to Canada to boost bilateral ties sometime next year, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly told CNN Philippines.
In an exclusive interview with CNN Philippines' The Final Word, Joly was asked if there are plans for Marcos to meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to further strengthen Ottawa and Manila ties."It will be the 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relationship between Canada and the Philippines," she said."So, we're working on different initiatives and we're always willing to partner with the Philippines to increase our friendship.
The minister said it will be committing Canada's"biggest investment" in its foreign policy in 40 years. About $2.3 billion will be allocated for investments in the Indo-Pacific region, she also said. "We are one million Filipino-Canadian strong," Joly noted."And so, it's also important for us to be here in the Philippines because we know that we have strong people to people ties."
The Canadian official said some investments for the country will include the security, trading and energy sectors. "We're here to make sure that the region stays peaceful and stable," she pointed out,"and at the same time that we can increase our cooperation together for the benefit of both countries, the Philippines and Canada."
