A man whose wife and son were killed with three other people says the attack began after he asked a neighbor to shoot his gun further away from his home.
People in their rural town north of Houston are used to people firing their weapons to blow off steam, but it was late Friday night, and Garcia had a month-old son who was crying.
And then, 10 to 20 minutes after Garcia had walked back from Oropeza’s house, the man started running toward him, and reloading. Also among the dead were Garcia’s son, Daniel Enrique Laso, and two women who died while shielding Garcia’s baby and 2-year-old daughter. Garcia said one of the women had told him to jump out a window “because my children were without a mother and one of their parents had to stay alive to take care of them.”Recent mass shootings have spurred new calls for gun regulations. Experts say the opposite is happening.
“I can tell you right now, we have zero leads,” James Smith, the FBI special agent in charge, told reporters while again asking the public for tips in the rural town north of Houston where the shooting took place just before midnight Friday.

The San Jacinto County Sheriff's Office said early Saturday that four people were pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting in Cleveland and the fifth died at a hospital. Three of the victims were women and one was a man. Sheriff Greg Capers told reporters he didn’t immediately know the gender of the deceased child. Three other children were uninjured. Capers said all the victims were believed to be from Honduras. He said the suspect is a resident of Mexico. No arrests have been made. Cleveland, Texas, is about 45 miles northeast of Houston.
