Two men were arrested after another man was stabbed on a bike trail in San Marcos early Tuesday, a sheriff’s official said.
The 44-year-old victim was with his dog and two friends when two men walked up and confronted him about 2:20 a.m. on the Inland Rail Trail near Rancheros Drive and Woodland Parkway, Detective James Santos said. During an argument, one of the men threw a glass bottle that struck the victim’s dog in the face. The dog suffered a large laceration and was later treated.
The victim was stabbed multiple times before he got away and got help from someone who called 911. He was taken to a hospital and was expected to recover, Santos said.Deputies searched the area and found one suspect, 32, about a mile away, at the intersection of East Mission Road and Bennett Avenue. The second suspect, 44, was found about five hours later, around 7 a.m., on Woodland Parkway near East Mission Road, Santos said.
The two men were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, animal cruelty and conspiracy to commit a crime, Santos said.
