A man who was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman after he cut off her apartment's power in 2016 was sentenced to prison on Monday.
Damaige Plascencia, 30, was sentenced by Weld County District Court Judge Allison Esser to 26 years to life in the Department of Corrections, according to the Nineteenth Judicial District Attorney's Office.However, 26 years was the maximum permitted after a judicial determination that Plascencia did not qualify for a sentence in the aggravated range, according to the district attorney's office.
As she was showering, the lights in her apartment went out. She stepped out of the shower, wrapped a towel around her and walked into the bedroom, where she felt around in the darkness. Then, Plascencia, who was 25 years old at the time, grabbed her from behind, according to the affidavit. The woman told officers she believed she was going to die in that moment. Plascencia then left and closed the bedroom door.
