IPOH: Post-mortem results show that the man who was killed during a fire in a double-storey house in Ipoh Garden East here on Friday (May 22) suffocated to death.
When contacted on Saturday , Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the post-mortem report on the victim, identified as M. Paramanandan, 42, found that he had died from smoke inhalation.
Asst Comm A. Asmadi said the man had mental illness, and police had grounds to believe he committed suicide.“Firemen smelled the stench of alcohol in the room,” he said. “There was also a lighter and a can of insecticide in the room. The case has been classified as sudden death,” he added.ACP Asmadi said there were five other tenants staying in the house, which belonged to the victim’s family.“He was only aware of the fire when the firemen came,” he said, adding that the four other tenants, all foreigners, were not in the house during the incident.
