An unemployed man in Melaka, Malaysia , named Muhammad Hidayat Burhan, 25, was fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court after admitting to two counts of vandalism. The first charge involved damaging the Tanjung Keling police station on January 7th at 10:10 PM. Muhammad Hidayat shattered the front glass window panel of the station by throwing a hammer. The second charge related to vandalism at a house in Batu 7, Tanjung Minyak on January 8th at 10:30 PM.
There, he smashed the front window of a car belonging to an individual. It is understood that Muhammad Hidayat committed these acts out of anger and dissatisfaction towards his ex-girlfriend, who had recently married another man. Both charges were brought under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential penalty of one to five years in prison, a fine, or both, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Hanis Aliyah Ahmad Kamarulnajuib urged the court to impose a suitable sentence on Muhammad Hidayat, who was not represented by a lawyer. Muhammad Hidayat subsequently paid the imposed fines.
