A man has died after he was allegedly assaulted and dumped on a nearby bench in Sydney’s west. About 10.30pm on October 24, police say two men aged 40 and 36 got into an argument in a public area near The Crescent in Fairfield. Police allege the younger man assaulted the older man, making him fall to the ground. The 40-year-old man was then allegedly put on a nearby bench.

Police said the man was found unresponsive by a passerby about 10.20am on October 25 and was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died. A 36-year-old man has been charged. He remains before the courts. “Following inquiries, a critical incident investigation was declared on Thursday 2 November 2023 with officers from Cumberland Police Area Command to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the actions of police,” NSW Police said.
