The latest on an officer-involved shooting from North Alabama that saw one man killed outside an elementary school
ETOWAH, Ala. - A man was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting outside a Gadsden Elementary School Thursday morning, according to Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton.According to ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation, a person was trying to force their way into a Rainbow City Patrol Car. A Rainbow City school resource officer came outside and confronted the man. Authorities with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency say the suspect resisted and tried to take the SRO’s firearm.
Horton says there was a physical altercation involving the SRO and the suspect. The SRO sustained minor injuries.Authorities have identified the suspect as 32-year-old Robert Tyler White of North Carolina Children were inside the building at the time for a summer education program, but officials say all children at the school are safe. The school was placed on a brief lockdown and we’re told children were bused to the local high school and parents were called to pick them up.Governor Ivey issued a quote regarding this incident:
When a situation ensued outside of Walnut Park School in Gadsden today, SROs immediately took action, faculty inside the building followed safety protocols and all children present were kept out of harm’s way. I commend all involved for acting quickly to protect these children.

Middle school in Tacoma goes in lockdown after-hours because of man with BB gun nearbyTACOMA, Wash. – A man with a BB gun going through a mental health crisis Tuesday evening caused a middle school to go on lockdown. Tacoma police say they were called to the area near N 37th and Pearl Street for the man with a gun around 6:30 p. m.
