Police in Perlis , Malaysia , arrested a 21-year-old unemployed man on January 22nd for allegedly transporting 16.6 kilograms of cannabis. The suspect was apprehended at 3:30 pm while attempting to deliver four boxes containing the drugs to a courier company in Padang Besar. According to Perlis deputy police chief SAC Baderulhisham Baharudin, the cannabis, compressed into lumps and mixed with liquid, was estimated to be worth RM51,646.
The man is believed to have acted as a delivery person for the illicit shipment, receiving it from a Thai national at Bulatan Padang Besar. He reportedly earned RM800 per delivery.SAC Baderulhisham stated that the courier service was likely chosen as a transit point because couriers typically do not possess scanners to inspect the contents of packages. The police suspect that the drugs were intended for distribution in the Malaysian peninsula. Based on their investigation, authorities believe the seized cannabis could have supplied approximately 33,320 addicts.The suspect, who tested positive for ketamine, has been remanded until Thursday to facilitate further investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952
