MELAKA: Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for pulling out an air pistol and threatening a motorcyclist during a road rage incident near a mall in Ayer Keroh here.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the 24-year-old motorcyclist lodged a report at the Bukit Baru police station at 1.30am on Friday following the incident.
He said the motorcyclist was on his way to the city centre at about 12.15am when the suspect's car suddenly took a U-turn at a traffic light junction in front of the mall, almost causing an accident. "This led the motorcyclist to gesture at the car driver and shout ‘hoi’ annoyed the motorist," he said.
ACP Christopher said the incensed driver signalled the motorcyclist to pull over to the side of the road before brandishing the pistol and pointing it at his neck.He said the motorcyclist overpowered the driver and grabbed the pistol with the help of other road users.He said the suspect was under police observation until the end of this year and has to report to the Bukit Baru police station every month for an ongoing investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
ACP Christopher said the driver has been remanded for six days to assist investigations under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and the Firearms Act 1960.
