PETALING JAYA: A 35-year-old man has been arrested in Puchong near here for allegedly insulting the Johor Sultan on social media.
Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said a handphone and a SIM card were seized from the suspect during the arrest on Monday , who is believed to have uploaded the post on Facebook under the name"Indera Mulia" on April 20.
She said the case, which is being handled by the Bukit Aman Prosecution and Law Division of the Criminal Investigation Department, is being investigated under the Sedition Act for bringing into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against any Ruler or against any Government. It is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or network service, she added.
Police advised the public to not misuse social media platforms by posting statements that could cause anger or incite hatred towards religion, race and the royalty, which can lead to disharmony and affect national unity.
