Man arrested after infant needed resuscitation, had serious head injuries, affidavit states

UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas

– A man is facing a felony charge after his infant child suffered serious injuries that investigators say were caused intentionally. Erick Israel Espinoza-Resendez, 20, is charged with injury to a child, serious bodily injury - intent/know, a first-degree felony. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, emergency medical services were called to Espinoza-Resendez’s Universal City apartment because his two-month old baby was not breathing and was unresponsive.

Espinoza-Resendez said the baby “choked on his milk” and told investigators that the infant had been irritable and acting unusual ever since he dropped his cell phone on the infant’s face a couple days before.EMS workers resuscitated the infant and transported him to the hospital where doctors found hemorrhaging in both eyes, bleeding on his brain and other brain injuries.
