The defendant, a 27-year-old man from Illinois, pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiring to commit wire fraud, the New Jersey U.S. Attorney announced.
An Illinois man admitted Thursday to fraudulently collecting coronavirus-related unemployment benefits while he was incarcerated at a federal prison in New Jersey, officials said.
Stokes and his unnamed conspirators used this personal information to file bogus unemployment insurance benefits applications, which netted more than $140,000, authorities said.
