Malaysian attendees at the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) music festival reported being harassed and extorted by Indonesian police. They claimed to have been forced to pay fines despite passing drug tests and that their bank accounts were temporarily frozen.

Many Malaysians who attended the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) music festival in Jakarta recently alleged that they were harassed by Indonesia n police. Social media was flooded with accounts of the alleged extortion, with one X page (@Twt_Rave) claiming that over 400 Malaysians were coerced into paying bribes, totaling over RM9 million. The police were reportedly waiting outside hotels for concertgoers checking out.

Attendees, including Malaysians, claimed they were forced to pay fines despite passing drug tests. Some even reported their bank accounts being temporarily frozen due to excessive overseas transactions. One Malaysian attendee, John, shared that his friends were detained and asked to pay a hefty IDR 800,000,000 (approximately RM221,750). They were released but still had to pay IDR 500,000,000 (approximately RM140,000) to retrieve their passports. John stated their banks halted transactions due to numerous attempts for overseas payments, making it difficult to pay the fines immediately. As of December 19, his friends are still awaiting their passports. The DWP organizers released a statement on December 18 acknowledging the situation and expressing regret, while stating that certain circumstances were beyond their control
