Heavy rain caused a roof leak at Axiata Arena, forcing the suspension of several Malaysian Open matches. The BWF is working to repair the damage and may reschedule some matches.
Heavy rainfall caused a leak in the roof of Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, disrupting several first-round matches of the Malaysian Open scheduled for January 7th. Courts two and three were most affected, forcing organizers to temporarily suspend play. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is working with the Malaysia Stadium Corporation (MSC) to repair the damaged courts. While they hope to resume play on court three within a couple of hours, court two's condition remains uncertain.
Due to concerns about extending matches past 1 am and its impact on players, the BWF might reschedule some affected matches for January 8th. A decision on whether to continue play today or suspend it and resume tomorrow will be made after assessing the courts' playability and consulting with referees, teams, and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM)
