Datuk Rosol Wahid proposed government incentives for polygamy during Budget 2025 debates to combat declining birth rates and an aging population in Malaysia.
During debates on the Budget 2025 in Parliament, Datuk Rosol Wahid suggested that polygamy could help address Malaysia ’s declining birth rate . He proposed government incentives to encourage marriage and childbearing, noting that a significant portion of young people are choosing not to marry or have children. Rosol highlighted that countries like China, India, and Indonesia have large populations and that Malaysia should aim for a similar size to achieve greatness and success.
He expressed concerns that by 2043, Malaysia could face an ageing population, with 15% of the population aged 65 and older, which could decrease productivity and affect social and economic development
