Two Malaysian filmmakers, Chong Keat Aun and Jack Tan, have been shortlisted for the 23rd Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF23) with their work-in-progress feature projects. The forum offers a platform for aspiring filmmakers to pitch their projects to a key industry audience.
The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society has announced the 15 shortlisted work-in-progress (WIP) feature projects for the 23rd Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF23). The list includes films from Malaysian director Chong Keat Aun and actor Jack Tan . Chong's film centers on a widowed farmer who lives peacefully with her children. However, when a land dispute arises, the mystery surrounding her husband's death resurfaces.
Tan's directorial debut will explore the story of a girl who pretends to be an exchange student to pursue a relationship with a wealthy boy, only to become entangled in her fabricated identity.The shortlisted projects will take part in two open pitch sessions at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on March 17 and 18. This platform will allow the work-in-progress teams to showcase their projects, including a five-minute first look, to a discerning industry audience actively seeking fresh and innovative content. Notable among the selected projects is Chong Keat Aun's film, which earned him the Golden Horse award for Best New Director in 2020. This will be a significant opportunity for both Chong and Tan to gain exposure and potentially secure funding for their upcoming projects.
