MELAKA: There was a big turnout to buy essential items at cheaper prices at the Malaysian Family Cheap Sales (Jualan Murah Keluarga Malaysia or JMKM) programme.

Hasanah Atan, 55, said she travelled with her family from Batu Pahat, Johor, just to buy items at the AKM held at the Melaka International Trade Centre.“So, if we buy in bulk, it’s a big saving for us. I like this programme and hope it will continue in the future,” she told Bernama here yesterday.

“I brought my grandchildren for the colouring contest and walkabout and happened to spot the programme. I bought chicken for RM7.49 per kg, cheaper than the market which sells at RM9.20 per kg. Melaka Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry director Norena Jaafar said the buyers were offered discounts of up to 30% at the three-day Melaka AKM Tour, which entered its second day yesterday.
