Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister and chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, urges the public to prioritize safety and heed authorities' instructions as the country braces for continued rainfall and flooding.

KUALA LUMPUR: The public, particularly residents in flood-affected areas, are urged to stay vigilant and adhere to the authorities’ instructions, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister said that personal and family safety should remain a priority amid the ongoing floods.

In a Facebook post Monday (Jan 13), Ahmad Zahid, who is also the National Disaster Management Committee chairman, said that the country was facing weather forecasts predicting continuous rainfall due to a monsoon surge from Jan 15 to 18. 'For weather-related information, the public can download the myCuaca application for the latest authentic updates from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and visit the official website,' he added. In the same post, Ahmad Zahid also shared an update on the flood situation in Johor, where 3,289 victims from 933 families have been evacuated to 35 relief centres. 'This situation not only involves Johor but also several other states, including Pahang, Terengganu, Perak, and Sarawak,” he said. - Bernam
