Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, the Director-General of Public Service (KPPA), has emphasized the crucial role of civil servants in ensuring Malaysia 's Asean 2025 chairmanship yields tangible benefits, particularly in the spheres of investment and trade. He underscored that Malaysia 's current role as Asean Chairman carries significant weight, influencing the nation's image, reputation, and capacity to lead development and regional growth.
Wan Ahmad Dahlan stressed the importance of civil servants contributing their energy and ideas to make a lasting positive impact both within Southeast Asia and globally. \He highlighted that every program, project, and initiative undertaken should directly benefit all segments of society and contribute to enhancing the quality of life for Asean residents. Wan Ahmad Dahlan warned that a lack of preparedness or subpar performance from Malaysian civil servants would undermine the nation's ability to effectively lead Asean. He emphasized the Public Service Department's (JPA) crucial role as the focal point for Asean Cooperation on Civil Service Matters (ACCSM), a platform facilitating the exchange of information, innovations, and best practices in public service management among member countries. \This platform also encourages collaboration and mutual assistance in bolstering human capital development, indirectly helping bridge the development gap among Asean nations. He explained that the ACCSM's programs and initiatives are guided by a five-year work plan with key focus areas encompassing public sector reform and modernization. To this end, the JPA will organize the Asean Conference on Future-Ready Public Service from October 7 to 8, 2025. This conference aims to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, idea exchange, and experience dissemination among Asean member countries in shaping a future-ready public service. The conference will culminate in the signing of the Asean Declaration on Future-Ready Public Service, outlining a commitment from member countries' heads of civil services to develop a future-ready public service through the leverage of digitalization and advanced technologies like artificial intelligence.Addressing concerns about the English proficiency of civil servants, Wan Ahmad Dahlan stated that the National Institute of Public Administration (Intan) will soon evaluate the overall competence of civil servants to ensure they receive appropriate training. He acknowledged that many civil servants possess English language skills but emphasized the need to further strengthen these abilities. Intan will offer intensive courses to enhance their communication with officials from other countries.Wan Ahmad Dahlan highlighted Intan's responsibility in elevating the Razak School of Government to be on par with the esteemed Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore. Under the JPA's oversight, Intan will explore international-level courses and provide training for officers from government-linked investment companies (GLICs), government-linked companies (GLCs), statutory bodies, and top civil service leaders
