Malaysian badminton players make strong showing at the Malaysia Open, securing multiple spots in the next round.
Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azryin-Tan Wee Kiong, the Malaysian men's professional doubles pair, secured the seventh national representative spot in the top 16 of the 2025 Malaysia Open Badminton Championship at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, last night. The world No. 32 ranked pair defeated the Chinese pair, Xie Hao Nan-Zeng Wei Han, 21-15, 12-21, 21-18 in the first round.
Besides Azriyn-Wee Kiong, three other Malaysian men's doubles teams will continue their fight tomorrow: Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun. In the women's doubles competition, Vivian Hoh-Lim Chiew Sien became the sole national representative to advance to the second round. Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, Malaysia has two representatives: Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai. Furthermore, the new 18-year-old Malaysian junior doubles pair, Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting, failed to match the experience of the world No. 22 ranked pair, Sung Shuo Yun-Yu Chien Hui from Taiwan, after losing straight sets 15-21, 15-21 in 39 minutes. Xin Yee-Carmen, ranked 125th in the world, made their debut at the Malaysia Open, a Super 1,000 tournament, which is a Grand Slam event for badminton
