A new fuel subsidy scheme in Malaysia leaves RON95 as the only fuel grade with blanket subsidies, making it a target for smugglers. The Petroleum Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) has urged the public to report foreign vehicles filling up with RON95 petrol to petrol station staff. PDAM says current laws don't penalize foreign drivers who buy subsidized fuel, making it difficult to monitor and prevent misuse.
They also say their ability to stop sales is limited and that they face heavy penalties for selling subsidized fuel to foreigners, even unintentionally. PDAM appeals to the public and authorities to work together to find a solution to ensure taxpayer funds are used appropriately
