Malaysia will not immediately enforce the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) for foreign vehicles, particularly from Singapore, but will provide ample notice before full enforcement.

Johor Bahru: Malaysia will not enforce the Vehicle Entry Permit ( VEP ) for foreign vehicles, particularly from Singapore , without prior notice. Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook stated that the government is currently employing a 'soft' approach by issuing notices, warnings, and providing ample time for Singapore an vehicle owners to register beforehand. He emphasized that the VEP system is operational and tracks all foreign vehicles entering the country.

However, enforcement remains lenient for the time being. Loke assured that when the next phase of full VEP enforcement commences, the public will be duly informed and it will not be implemented abruptly without prior notice. Starting October 1st last year, Malaysia implemented the VEP for vehicles from Singapore to ensure compliance with national road regulations. Meanwhile, Loke revealed that his ministry has agreed to develop an Automated Transit System (ART) Elevated system in the city to support the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) service. He stated that this proposition was presented at a Cabinet meeting in December, and the Public-Private Partnership Unit (UKAS) will release a Request for Proposal (RFP) in the near future. The Johor state government has requested the construction of an elevated ART system, and the ministry supports this initiative. Loke highlighted the advantages of this transportation system, including its faster development compared to the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and its flexibility, accommodating both rail and bus routes, unlike the LRT which operates solely on a rail system. He noted that the project will be a public-private partnership to expedite its completion. Loke also informed that a significant portion of the RTS Link rail infrastructure construction was successfully completed by January 31st, along with the full readiness of construction work for Category Level 1 rail infrastructure
