In a bid to accelerate the adoption of electrified vehicles (xEVs), Malaysia will introduce stringent exhaust emissions standards aimed at curbing the production of non-EEV (energy-efficient vehicles) cars. This move, driven by the country's commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, aligns with the National Energy Policy 2022-2040 (DTN). The policy targets an 80% share of xEVs in the vehicle fleet, improved fuel economy for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, and a robust local EV manufacturing sector.

Other initiatives involve increasing EV adoption, including continuing co-funding of public charging infrastructure, expanding product awareness and model availabilities of EVs as well as reduce regulatory challenge in regards to setting up charging infrastructure.
