Malaysia dan Indonesia mengeluarkan lebih 85% minyak sawit di seluruh dunia.
Tahun lalu, Suruhanjaya Eropah memutuskan penanaman kelapa sawit menyebabkan kemusnahan hutan besar-besaran, oleh itu ia tidak patut dianggap bahan api pengangkutan boleh diperbaharui dan penggunaannya sebagai bahan api pengangkutan akan disingkirkan secara berperingkat-peringkat mulai 2024. Penggunaan bahan api bio oleh EU meningkat, tetapi minyak sawit terus berkurangan. Tahun lalu, EU menggunakan lebih 7 juta tan dengan kira-kira 65% untuk tenaga.
