Malaysia and Singapore agreed to suspend the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail project for two years, pushing the start date to 2031. Singapore will be reimbursed S$15 million by Malaysia.
Malaysia and Singapore have mutually agreed to suspend the Kuala Lumpur- Singapore High-Speed Rail ( HSR ) project for two years, until May 31, 2020. The Malaysia n government will reimburse Singapore S$15 million (RM45.1 million) for the suspension. Both countries have agreed to vary the HSR Bilateral Agreement, pushing the start date of operations to January 1, 2031, from the original December 31, 2026. The Malaysia n government will pay the reimbursement by the end of January 2019.
While the HSR Bilateral Agreement does not provide for suspension, this was agreed upon in the spirit of bilateral cooperation. Singapore remains committed to the project, citing the 400 km distance between the two capitals as ideal for high-speed rail travel
