Herry Iman Pierngadi, the newly appointed men's doubles head coach for Malaysia, has stated his intention to observe the existing pairings before making any alterations. He emphasized the importance of assessing the players' performance and adapting to the current training program. Herry, known for his successful coaching career in Indonesia, expressed hopes of helping Malaysian doubles players achieve greater consistency and praised the recent performance of the current top-ranked pairs.
Malaysia's men's doubles head coach, Herry Iman Pierngadi, is not planning to make any immediate changes to the existing pairings. Herry, who started his role at Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) on February 1, wants to assess his players' performance before making any alterations to the men's doubles team. He stated that if the performance is not up to standard, changes will be made. However, for now, he hasn't considered changing the pairs.
He acknowledges that there might be discrepancies in performance during training compared to competitions. Therefore, he will observe the players' performance in tournaments before making any decisions. The timeframe for this assessment remains unclear. The 62-year-old coach also has no plans to change the current training program and understands that he needs time to implement necessary transformations. He plans to adapt to the existing system first and gradually introduce small changes rather than drastic overhauls. He emphasized the importance of players enjoying their training sessions. Herry expressed his hope of helping former world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik achieve greater consistency after their semi-final defeats in the Indian Open and Indonesian Masters. He also praised the Indonesian Masters champions, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, and is optimistic about their future success based on their current form. Regarding potential training sessions with other professional pairings, such as Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, Herry deferred the decision to national coaching director Rexy Mainaky and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).Since leaving BAM last August, Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin have showcased excellent form, winning the China Open, finishing as runners-up in the World Tour Finals, and claiming the Indian Open last month. This makes them the second-best men's doubles pair in the world. Herry, who has been offered a four-year contract by BAM, is a renowned coach known for his expertise in developing world-class men's doubles teams in Indonesia, including Olympic gold medallists Candra Wijaya-Tony Gunawan (Sydney 2000) and Hendra Setiawan-Markis Kido (Beijing 2008). This marks his first foray outside Indonesia after dedicating 31 years to coaching the Indonesian national badminton team
