The projection is based on better labour availability, and yields from new areas.
Malaysia’s crude palm oil production in 2023 was expected to rise to 19 million tonnes from last year’s 18.45 million tonnes.
The forecast reverses the MPOB’s May prediction that 2024 production could drop between 1 and 3 million metric tonnes. “We are anticipating higher production in 2024 than this year because of better labour availability, and some of the new areas would start yielding,” he said.
