Jabatan Alam Sekarang in Malaysia has recorded 99 complaints of illegal disposal of hazardous waste across the country. Menteri Sumber Asli and Kementerian Kelestarian Alam are in the process of amending the Environmental Quality Act to impose stricter penalties on such offenses.
PORT DICKSON: Sebanyak 99 aduan berhubung buangan sisa terjadual yang dilupuskan secara haram di seluruh negara direkodkan Jabatan Alam Sekitar tahun ini setakat hari ini.
“ kita sudah buat pindaan akta, dahulu denda maksimum hanyalah RM100,000, sekarang sudah RM10 juta, ada penjara mandatori lima tahun. Pada masa yang sama menuju tahun 2025 ini, kita dalam proses memperkasakan lagi JAS. Menurutnya, terdapat sejumlah lebih kurang 800 tong dan tangki intermediate bulk container dipercayai mengandungi sisa kimia yang dilupuskan secara haram di kedua-dua lokasi tersebut yang terlindung di sebalik tembok yang berketinggian lebih kurang tiga meter.
