Malaysia Predicts Floods in Kelantan and Terengganu

The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) warns of potential floods in nine districts of Kelantan and eight districts of Terengganu from December 29th to 31st, 2024. Residents are urged to be vigilant and take necessary precautions.

The Malaysia n Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) predicts floods in nine districts of Kelantan and eight districts of Terengganu from December 29th to 31st, 2024. The affected districts in Kelantan include Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Pasir Puteh, Bachok, Tanah Merah, Machang, Kuala Krai, and Jeli. The eight districts in Terengganu are Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu , Hulu Terengganu , Marang, Dungun, and Kemaman.

The National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN) urges all residents, especially in affected areas, to be vigilant and take precautionary measures. JPS will continue monitoring the situation and issue timely updates if significant rainfall continues in the affected river basins. The predicted floods may occur earlier or later than the expected date. All disaster management agencies and residents, particularly those in areas prone to flooding, are advised to be aware and heed the instructions of the authorities. Previously, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (Met Malaysia) announced that the monsoon surge is expected to hit Kelantan and Terengganu from December 28th to 31st, based on the latest weather models. Met Malaysia also stated that a low-pressure area is expected to form near east Sabah from December 28th to 30th, potentially bringing continuous rain to both east and west Sabah. Consequently, Met Malaysia issued Continuous Rainfall Warnings (Alert) for both east and west Sabah from December 28th to 30th and Continuous Rainfall Warnings (Alert) for Kelantan and Terengganu from December 29th to 31st
