Malaysian police are investigating reports of fraud related to tourism packages to Seoul, South Korea, allegedly orchestrated by a local influencer. Victims claim to have lost significant sums of money.

Malaysia n police have received 24 reports of fraud related to tourism packages to Seoul , South Korea, allegedly orchestrated by a businessman and influencer, resulting in losses estimated at RM454,450. The Director of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, confirmed the receipt of reports from victims claiming to have been cheated by the individual in question. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

Victims are advised to promptly file reports at any police station to facilitate a proper investigation. Some cases have also been referred to the Consumer Claims Tribunal under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for action under the Consumer Protection Act 1999 (Act 599). As a preventive measure to curb tourism package scams, individuals intending to purchase tourism packages are advised to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (www.motac.gov.my/semakan) to verify the registration status of travel agencies offering related packages. This simple step is crucial to avoid becoming victims of tourism package scams offered by unregistered companies. Previously, a video surfaced on social media featuring an individual claiming to be a victim of Kim Seri or her real name, Seri Azlina. The sharing of this video elicited various reactions, with most expressing sympathy and urging the victim to report the matter to the police. Kim Seri, through her Instagram (IG) Story, reportedly apologized and assured that she would settle outstanding payments to affected customers from the delayed trip package before or on February 1st, next year.
