Malaysia's MCMC is nearing the final stages of a disaster alert system which will notify citizens directly on their smartphones. The system will utilize geolocation technology and be coordinated with the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
Malaysia 's MCMC is nearing the final stages of implementing an emergency alert system that will notify individuals directly through their smartphones in case of disasters including floods. Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, stated that the system would not use SMS but would instead utilize smartphones and include geolocation technology.
It will be coordinated with the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), allowing for targeted alerts to specific locations and additional information such as the location of temporary relief centers. The minister is hopeful the system can be expedited, but is yet to receive confirmation from MCMC.
