Malaysia has cemented its position as the leading data center hub in Southeast Asia, fueled by strong demand, strategic government initiatives, and a commitment to technological innovation and sustainability.
Malaysia has established itself as the leading data center hub in Southeast Asia , according to Knight Frank Malaysia . Their Data Centre Research Report 2024 reports a take-up rate of 429 megawatt, surpassing other countries in the region. The nation has secured RM141.72 billion in digital investments in the first ten months of the year, three times 2023's total.
This surge is attributed to strong demand, particularly in Johor and the Klang Valley, fueled by major companies like Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, and Oracle. Keith Ooi, group managing director of Knight Frank Malaysia, believes Malaysia's strategic initiatives in digital infrastructure serve as a model for the global technology landscape. He emphasizes the country's commitment to technological innovation and sustainability, making it an attractive destination for data center investments. Government efforts, including the Green Lane Pathway and the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme, are crucial in shaping a resilient data center ecosystem. These initiatives expedite electricity supply, promote renewable energy adoption, and demonstrate Malaysia's dedication to sustainability and technological advancement. Amy Wong, executive director of research and consultancy, highlights that this dominance strengthens Malaysia's competitive advantage in Southeast Asia and its capacity for sustained growth in the digital economy
