Malaysian Foreign Minister assures that the situation in Syria is peaceful and that Malaysian students in the country are safe.

Malaysia has no intention yet to repatriate some 50 Malaysians, including students, who are currently in Syria, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. The Foreign Minister assures that the situation remains peaceful in Syria and the Malaysians there are all safe. 'We have our Honorary Consul of Malaysia there, who communicates daily with Wisma Putra and directly with me, taking photos and videos of our students there, who are in a safe and peaceful situation.

'They have enough food and everything, and they are staying in their respective colleges,' said Mohamad during a press conference after the presentation ceremony for Malaysia's contribution to Palestine under the initiative of the Kingdom of Jordan, at Wisma Putra, on Wednesday (Dec 18). Mohamad, who is popularly known as Tok Mat, said that Malaysia's Honorary Consul also communicates with the students daily and with the college authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of Malaysian students in Syria, adding that their situation is monitored daily. 'However, we don't have a legitimate government yet, and it seems they are trying to maintain peace, so we hope this peace can continue,' added the Foreign Minister
