Selain kemajuan dalam bidang ekonomi, Dr Mahathir menegaskan bahawa pencapaian juga harus dinilai atas kestabilan, keamanan negara dan komitmen untuk mematuhi undang-undang.
Dr Mahathir berkata demikian ketika diminta mengulas tinjauan Merdeka Centre yang mendapati 61 peratus rakyat Malaysia percaya yang negara ini menuju ke arah yang salah sementara hanya 26 peratus merasakan ia bergerak di landasan yang betul. “Sila ingat bahawa negara ini sangat bertuah kerana apabila terdapat perubahan kerajaan, tiada apa yang berlaku. Semuanya berjalan lancar,” katanya.
Secara berseloroh, Dr Mahathir berkata, “Perkara terbaik ialah dalam pembangkang. Pembangkang telah menikmati 60 tahun mengkritik kerajaan dan pembangkang itu kini memerintah kerajaan, jadi ia kini menerima sedikit ubatnya sendiri.”
