Malaysia and Sweden have agreed to collaborate in developing a national rare disease policy, expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025. The discussions, held between Malaysian Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Swedish Ambassador TYT Niklas Wiberg, and Swedish Trade Commissioner Ludwig Hermansson, explored opportunities for cooperation in addressing rare diseases. A sum of RM25 million has been allocated in the 2025 Budget to support this initiative, with philanthropic contributions also sought to expand available funding. The collaboration also encompasses discussions on medical devices and technology, leveraging the potential through the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the European Union (EU) and Malaysia. Sweden is encouraged to increase investment in Malaysia, supported by quality infrastructure, good education, a high-skilled workforce, and commitment to green energy.
