Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul highlights the strong and beneficial cooperation between Malaysia and China, emphasizing that mutual respect and dialogue have transformed bilateral relations into a partnership that benefits both nations and the wider region. He cites the Belt and Road Initiative as a key example of this collaboration, driving infrastructure development and economic opportunities across ASEAN. Johari also underscores Malaysia's role as a key gateway for Chinese investments in ASEAN.
KUALA LUMPUR: Cooperation between Malaysia and China has demonstrated how respect and constructive dialogue can transform bilateral ties into a partnership that benefits the region, says Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
“The Belt and Road initiative, for instance, has paved the way for infrastructure development and economic opportunities across Asean, with Malaysia serving as a key gateway for Chinese investments,” said Johari at a hotel in KL on Friday . “What began as a historic step in 1974, blossomed into a comprehensive strategic partnership built on trust, mutual respect and shared aspirations,” said Johari.“From robust economic collaboration - China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years - to vibrant people-to-people exchanges, our partnership continues to serve as an exemplary model for Asean-China relations,” said Johari.
Johari also said Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability” reflects Malaysia’s vision for an Asean where all members, regardless of size, will benefit from shared growth and development. Chinese ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, who was present during the reception, said last year was a milestone in China-Malaysia bilateral relations, as it witnessed high-level visits throughout the year.
