Agoda's survey revealed a 13% surge in international travelers seeking accommodations in Malaysia for New Year's Eve 2024 compared to 2023. Kuala Lumpur topped the list of desired destinations, followed by Johor Baru and Penang. Domestic travelers also showed similar preferences.

PETALING JAYA: Celebrating New Year’s Eve in Malaysia has seen a rise in popularity among international travellers this year, according to the global digital travel platform Agoda .

He said the increase was based on Agoda's analysis of searches made between November 1 to 27, 2024, for check-ins on December 31, 2024, compared to data from the same period in 2023. “The destinations of Kota Kinabalu, and Langkawi also made up the rest of the top five rankings which have received the highest search inquiries from potential travellers,” he said on Tuesday .

On the flip side, Teja said that Malaysians looking to travel abroad for the New Year inquired the most about accommodations in Bangkok, Hat Yai, Taipei, Tokyo, and Singapore.
