PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia backs a United Nations General Assembly resolution, seeking an International Court of Justice advisory opinion on Israel 's obligations concerning the presence and activities of international entities in the occupied Palestinian Territory.

The Foreign Ministry declared on Friday that the resolution was tabled by a collective of like-minded member states, inclusive of Malaysia, under the agenda of"strengthening the United Nations System". The resolution is a direct response to the recent decision by the Israeli Knesset to prohibit the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

According to the statement, the resolution embodies the international community's determination to promptly tackle the severe humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, safeguard the security of civilians and UN personnel, and maintain the crucial role of the UN in orchestrating a fair, enduring, and comprehensive resolution to the Palestine question.

The statement further outlined Malaysia's commitment to persist in efforts towards the realisation of the Palestinians' right to self-determination and justice, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter, including through legal channels at the ICJ. – Bernama14 items under Christmas price control scheme from Dec 23
