Pat Cummins' role in the remainder of the Test series had been up in the air after he returned to Sydney from India to be with his severely ill mother.

After a crushing defeat in the second Test in Delhi, the Australian captain flew home to Sydney to see his mother Maria - who is fighting breast cancer - in palliative care.
